| As a new parent at Desert Sage, there will be many new experiences for you. We would like to make the transition as smooth as possible. Each year, we host a Kindergarten orientation night, when you will have the opportunity to meet and hear from several of the staff, administration, and teachers. Don't miss it! You will be contacted by your child's teacher during the 2 weeks prior to the first day of school regarding a "Find Your Classroom Night". This is a great time for your child to familiarize his/herself with the classroom. There will also be a representative from the Transportation Service to answer any questions you may have about busing. On the first day of school, there will be parent volunteers present to check in your child and they will ask for information on your child's transportation for the first week or two. This is to ensure the safety of our little geckos at the beginning and end of the day. Students who ride the bus must have a parent waiting at the bus stop, or the bus driver will not drop them off. Please note that the bus is usually up to an hour late arriving after school for at least the first week. This is due to many factors, including the bus driver double checking at every stop to make sure that each child is safe and new students who were not properly registered with Transportation Dept. If this wait will be inconvenient, please pick up your child, if possible, for that first week of school. If you will be picking up your child, please speak with the teacher about her policy. It is usually best for you to be there early and walk to the teacher's designated area. Once your child enters the classroom, it is best to make your good-byes quickly and with a smile, no matter what their state of mind is. Often children who are a little anxious become more so when they see that little tear in the corner of your eye, and any reassurances you try to give them may actually prolong their discomfort. Please know that should you need to contact your child's teacher, you will not be able to call the classroom directly. All phones ring to voice mail during the day. If you have an urgent matter to discuss, the office staff will gladly help you. Teachers will check their voice messages during break times or at the end of the day. Should your child be absent or more than a few minutes late, please call the 24-hour attendance line: 623.445.4790 and mention the reason, i.e. specific illness, personal, dr.'s appt., etc. This information is required by the Deer Valley School District. If they don't receive a call, they will have to contact you. Please notify the office staff of any changes in contact information, especially phone numbers. |
